Lexus USA November 2008 Sales Report

Lexus Logo

The November sales for Lexus USA have been reported today, and at least the numbers are better than last month’s drop:

2008 2007 % Change
IS250/350/F 2,749 3,849 -28.6
ES350 4,116 5,902 -30.3
GS350/460/450h 721 2,205 -67.3
SC430 83 268 -69.0
LS460/600h L 1,272 2,668 -52.3
Total Cars 8,941 14,892 -40.0
RX350/400h 5,850 8,038 -27.2
GX470 1,008 1,847 -45.4
LX570 424 71 497.2
Total Trucks 7,282 9,956 -26.9
Total Sales 16,223 24,848 -34.7

As is my tendency, I’m searching for the bright side of things, and the LX 570 shines like a strange, improbable beacon. Two points off of 500% growth while everything else is at last 30% off? That’s practically amazing. Still, I can’t help but notice the ugly 67.3% drop in GS sales under last year, which is particularly worrying considering that the redesign is probably two years away.

(I did just think of a positive, at least the numbers next year won’t look so bad.)

2009 Lexus IS UK Pricing

2009 Lexus IS

Somehow this slipped by me, but the UK prices for the 2009 Lexus IS were announced earlier this week and show some significant savings over last year’s model. Here’s a full table breakdown, courtesy of 4WheelsNews:

CURRENT IS MODEL OTR PRICE 2009 IS MODEL (equivalent) OTR PRICE CUSTOMER SAVING
IS 220d £23,192 IS 220d SE £22,490 £702
IS 220d SE £25,842 IS 220d SE-I £24,995 £847
IS 220d SE-L £27,942 IS 220d SE-L £27,160 £782
IS 250 £24,127 IS 250 SE £23,200 £927
IS 250 auto £24,937 IS 250 SE auto £24,010 £927
IS 250 SE £26,777 IS 250 SE-I £25,720 £1,057
IS 250 SE auto £27,587 IS 250 SE-I auto £26,530 £1,057
IS 250 SE-L £29,687 IS 250 SE-L £28,850 £837

Of course, the big deal here is that the new 2009 IS has just been revamped, so getting a price drop on top of the improvements is a jolly-good deal.

Lexus Canada October 2008 Sales Report

Lexus Canada

Lexus sales continue to grow in Canada, with October 2008 sales of 1,126 total units, a 15.8% increase when compared to 2007. What’s more, total sales for the year are up 15.6% to 12,943 vehicles sold. This number is almost equal to the annual sales of 2007, with two months still remaining!

Some other points:

  • Lexus RX 350 sales are up 33.5%, with 438 sold
  • Lexus RX 400h sold 129 units, for an increase of 26.5%

(On top of that, Toyota announced that Scion will begin sales in Canada starting in 2010.)

Lexus USA October 2008 Sales Report

Lexus Logo

Ouch!

October was severely unkind to the automotive industry, with almost every company reporting ugly decreases when compared to last year. Lexus was hit something fierce, dropping 37.6% — here’s the model breakdown:

2008 2007 % Change
IS250/350/F 2,772 3,727 -28.4
ES350 4,141 6,516 -38.8
GS350/460/450h 819 1,507 -47.7
SC430 98 316 -70.1
LS460/600h L 1,502 2,951 -51.0
Total Cars 9,332 15,017 -40.2
RX350/400h 5,180 7,940 -37.2
GX470 1,204 2,046 -43.3
LX570 567 116 370.7
Total Trucks 6,951 10,102 -33.7
Total Sales 16,283 25,119 -37.6

The LX 570 continues to defy any sense of logic, closing in on 400% growth over last year, but the other totals are nothing short of brutal. Still, it’s important to note that this isn’t an isolated event in the US — check out the damage over at Autoblog. It’s no small wonder these numbers are from October, because they’re just downright scary.

Lexus IS-F Australian Pricing Announced

2009 Lexus IS-F

Good things come to those who wait!

Australia will finally be able to purchase the Lexus IS-F in late October, and even better, the super sedan’s pricing significantly undercuts the competition.

Retailing for $129,000 AUD (approx. $89,700 USD), the IS-F will be $15,365 AUD less than the Mercedes C63 and as much as $33,901 AUD less expensive than the BMW M3. Mr. John Roca, Lexus Australia’s Chief Executive, has more:

“IS F enters one of the most competitive categories,” Mr Roca said. “This category is all about passion and brand values. With the IS F we have the brand values - the passion comes with the first drive.

“The core Lexus values are what will set us apart from the competition. Lexus is extremely excited about the arrival of the IS F and the new clientele it will bring. Furthermore, Lexus now has a hero car that will stimulate sales of other IS models,” said Mr Roca.

In North America, this trio of cars retails for roughly the same amount (before options), but in Australia, the difference between an IS-F and an M3 roughly translates to $23,600 USD. That’s staggering.

Lexus Global Sales Slipping

Lexus Logo

Responding to a report that Toyota may be unable to achieve its projected global sales target, Senior Managing Director Yoichiro Ichimaru shared some details about the current state of Lexus sales worldwide.

According to Market Watch:

…[Toyota] will open a showroom in Tokyo for its upscale Lexus brand vehicles that is designed to draw in customers from countries outside of Japan.

At the new showroom, located in the center of one of Japan’s fashion districts, the company will offer services to explain Lexus products and Japanese traffic rules in English and other languages.

Lexus is currently struggling to boost sales of its luxury vehicles with sales for the first nine months of this year falling 25% from the same term last year.

Due to the brand’s reliance on the American market, the 25% drop in global sales is understandable, but that doesn’t make it any less shocking. Certainly, the number one focus for Lexus management has to be increasing the profile in Europe, if only to insure that similar drops don’t occur in the future.
